Big Crowd
The grand opening ceremonies for the new Pompano State Farmers Market were held on November 16, 1939. It is said that virtually everyone in Pompano attended the opening, and with dignitaries and visitors, the audience could have been as large as 5,000 people. The significance of the attendance figure can be measured by the actual population of Pompano, which the 1940 census set at 4,427.

Councilwoman Wyse
The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified in 1920, giving women the right to vote. That same year, Pompano sent its first woman to the City Council. Beulah Wyse was elected and served from 1920 to 1922. She was the wife of George Wyse, a farmer and raiser of livestock. According to one source, Mrs. Wyse was a former teacher.

Brotherly Love
In March, 1909, W. A. Lopez was hired to be an Assistant Keeper at the Hillsboro Lighthouse. Sources indicate that he resigned in August of that same year “after shooting his brother 3 times.”
