Two Funerals at the Baptist Church

Services Set Today for Two of Pompano’s Outstanding Pioneers

Services for two of Pompano Beach’s oldest residents, Elizabeth Florence Henderson, 82, and William B. “Bill” Cheshire, 80, who lived here a total of 84 years , will be held today at the First Baptist Church.

An Order of the Eastern Star graveside service for Mrs. Henderson of 118 NE Sixth St., who died Friday at North District Hospital, will take place at Pompano Beach cemetery following the 3:30 p.m. church service.

Mrs. Henderson came here 43 years ago from Rightsville, Ga. and is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Harvey Saries of West Palm Beach; Mrs. Gideon Young, Mrs. W. D. Carstensen, Mrs. William Hodges Sr., all of Pompano; Mrs. Annie Lee Naurer of Miami; and Mrs. John T. Lockley, of Los Angeles; two sons, William R. and Jack F. both of Pompano; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

A Masonic graveside service for Cheshire, who lived at 417 NE Second St. and died Friday at North District Hospital, will take place at Pompano Beach Cemetery following the 10 a.m. church service.

A retired Pompano farmer, Cheshire came here 41 years ago from Wellborn, Fla., and is survived by his wife, Lillie, four sons, Harvey S., Dr. R. R. Cheshire, Pompano Beach City Commissioner Woodrow and Elmer J.; three daughters, Mrs. William A. Hill and Mrs. W. J. Stuckey, both of Fort Lauderdale, and Mrs. James Mayo of Miami; two sisters, including Mrs. N. I. Bank of Pompano; one brother, 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Arrangements for both Mrs. Henderson and Cheshire are being handled by Kraeer Funeral Home.
